Department of Pathology

The Department of Pathology at Shri Gangaram Medical College & Hospital is the cornerstone of diagnostic medicine and an essential bridge between the basic and clinical sciences. It plays a critical role in understanding the etiology, progression, and manifestation of diseases, thereby equipping students with the ability to diagnose and interpret pathological conditions with confidence.

Our department encompasses three core branches—Histopathology, Hematology, and Cytopathology. Each section is supported by advanced laboratory facilities, automated analyzers, microtomes, centrifuges, and high-resolution microscopes. Students receive hands-on training in slide preparation, staining techniques, and interpretation of specimens, enabling them to develop sharp diagnostic skills.

Teaching is conducted through integrated lectures, practical sessions, case-based discussions, and clinico-pathological correlation meetings. Students analyze real cases and correlate clinical findings with pathological reports, which prepares them for logical reasoning and clinical application. The curriculum includes General Pathology, Systemic Pathology, Hematology, Clinical Pathology, and Blood Banking.

Our department also features a rich and expansive museum that displays over 500 preserved specimens, pathology charts, photomicrographs, and organ models. These exhibits are a valuable resource for visual learning and revision. The state-of-the-art Hematology Lab allows students to explore the pathophysiology of blood disorders like anemia, leukemia, clotting defects, and more.

Research is an integral part of our department. Faculty members are actively involved in studies related to tumor markers, infectious diseases, immunopathology, and molecular diagnostics. Students are encouraged to participate in research projects and scientific paper presentations, enhancing their academic exposure and critical thinking.

Our Diagnostic Pathology Lab also serves the hospital by providing real-time diagnostic support. Students witness live diagnostic procedures, biopsy reporting, and cytology preparations, allowing them to observe the direct clinical relevance of pathology in patient care.

We also conduct interdisciplinary teaching with departments like Medicine, Surgery, and Microbiology, offering a holistic understanding of disease processes. Workshops, slide seminars, interdepartmental meets, and quiz competitions keep the learning environment dynamic and interactive.

The Department of Pathology emphasizes a deep understanding of disease mechanisms and trains students to apply this knowledge in both diagnostic and therapeutic contexts. Our vision is to foster future clinicians who appreciate the science behind disease and use this insight to improve patient care and outcomes.
