Department of Dermatology
The Department of Dermatology at Shri Gangaram Medical College & Hospital provides expert training in skin, hair, nail, and sexually transmitted diseases. It equips students with the ability to diagnose and treat a wide range of dermatological and cosmetic conditions with scientific rigor and empathy.
Students participate in outpatient consultations and procedural sessions, observing and assisting in the management of acne, eczema, psoriasis, fungal infections, vitiligo, leprosy, hair loss, and pigmentary disorders. They are also exposed to counseling and diagnosis of sexually transmitted infections and HIV-related skin issues.
The department is equipped with diagnostic tools such as dermatoscopes, Wood’s lamps, and skin biopsy equipment. Minor OT facilities allow students to observe and assist in procedures like cryotherapy, electrocautery, intralesional injections, skin biopsies, and chemical peels.
Teaching is carried out through lectures, case demonstrations, image-based quizzes, and integrated discussions. Emphasis is placed on identifying skin presentations of systemic diseases and differentiating infectious from non-infectious skin conditions.
Research activities include clinical trials on new dermatological agents, skin microbiome studies, and public health surveys on skin diseases. Students are motivated to take part in national dermatology quiz contests and workshops.
The Department of Dermatology fosters a keen eye for diagnosis and a gentle approach to patient care, producing doctors who can manage skin health holistically while staying abreast of modern dermatological science.
